So I had a long talk with Theresa. Theresa is up there for the weekend with Mom, Peter and April visiting Kayla.
She stayed in the room with her last night, they lowered her meds down majorly and have now shut them off. Obviously they will still give her the pain/sedation drug as needed but it is not on a continuous drip any more.
She was responding more and more to talking, squeezing your hand. Theresa said Kayla was very calm when she would talk to her about Mom and Dad and Madison. This morning she asked her if she wanted Granny (that's my mom) and she squeezed her hand very hard, so she got Granny for her.
The plan for today is to do a CT scan, hopefully take the drain out, they have it clamped off and she is doing just fine maintaining the ICP on her own. Once the drain is out they will be able to do an MRI and then hopefully they can get the neck brace off.
This morning the doctor was checking her reactions, when he opened her eye she would look towards him, isn't quite focusing yet, but that will come with time. He stuck a q-tip up her nose, and she jumped - excellent news that she responded. He also stuck one in the back of her throat, she did not respond to that, but it will take time, and hopefully in the next few days she'll have her gag reflex back.
Theresa also said last night she was lifting her left arm up to about a 90 degree angle and then lowering it, one time she lowered it onto her cast, and sort of knocked on it again, almost as if she was trying to figure out what it was. So Theresa was explaining to her about her cast.
So she is becoming more aware of what is going on around her. As always it is going to be a long road to recovery and Kayla is going to do things in her time, not necessarily as quickly as we would all like.
So if you haven't already done so don't forget about Cards for Kayla! So when she does wake up she will have a wonderful Wall of Cards to look at! The hospital she is in is moving to a new facility in September, so the nurses said they could pretty much decorate her room however they wanted! So get creative!
I had checked this site when I got up this morning, as I do every morning, but decided to check again quickly before we ran out to do some errands- just in case there was a new update. I'm so glad I did!! This news sounds great!! We will continue to pray for Kayla and the entire family.

All this news sounds encouraging. Kayla will come around at her own pace. That is how she is. she is a "steady as she goes" kind of girl. Kisses and prayers to Kayla, Love Mrs. Komar
