So Kayla scared us a little yesterday. When Peter noticed that the fluid was building up, he called the hospital and they said to bring her in for a CAT scan. Medical Command made the decision to life flight her due to the fact that none of us knew how fast the fluid would build up.
By the time Peter drove to the hospital the fluid had gone down and the CAT scan was normal. No one seemed to be quite sure just what happened but one theory is that the shunt which drains the brain fluid was blocked and that the pressure change due to altitude of the chopper flight made it flow again. It is any one's guess it seems.
Today the speech therapist came to work with Kayla. First she stimulated Kayla's cheeks outside and inside her mouth and also her tongue with a vibrator and Kayla ate 6 bites of baby food. This is a great step as she has not really eaten since Sept. 7th or 8th. I think that Kayla's teacher was also coming today and Kayla is supposed to have physical therapy tomorrow.
